Follow Up: Warhawk’s Future

After it’s initial release in August of this year Warhawk has either been on the good side of people’s hearts or the dark side. After reading my review you would guess that I love the game, even with it’s “low” score. After many days of trying to play the game and failing to do so due to connection problems, the inability to get into games that are not full, cheaters, glitchers, and all around hax0rz, and of course the dreaded microphone problem my “love” of the game began to dwindle. Technical problems with this online only game hindered the online aspects of Warhawk; the ranking system failed, some people could not rank up even if the game said they did, and others could not get into ranked games whatsoever. A couple of months passed, and just when all hope was almost lost, Incognito released a blog stating there would be a series of patches to bring forth the future of Warhawk.

The first patch has since been released and it has worked tremendously. So far people can rank up, join un-full games, there are no glitchers, and connection problems have seemed to fade away. This first patch brought my online hopes up for Dylan Jobe and his developing group. Now on to the other problem people have had with this game: too small.

First Patch
Server-side updates
* Stat database stability improvements
* Improved server stability
* Max Clan limit changed from 32 to 64
* Viral Rank-up bug fixed and correct for players that were accidentally ranked up.
* “Time-in-Vehicle” Stats fixed so certain awards can now be granted properly.
Client-side updates for Patch v1.1
* Stat connection, fetch/post fixes
* Significantly improved client connection stability
* Quad “????” Ping display bug fixed.
* Added support for Player-Ranked Servers.
* Game synchronization fixes due to fluctuating network conditions (packet-drop).
* Crash fixes for end of game and split screen.

The second patch in the series of two seeks to bring more joy to the player by fixing a lot of the other glitches and adding more community features as well. The release for this patch has been slated for December. It includes Dual Shock 3 support and adds an all new Store Front for the purchase of new items for the game. Some of the community features added include Increased clan support, the ability to add servers to your “Favorites” after the end of a match, and player stats for each game. Another key update in this patch is the addition of new layouts for 8 player games on each map.

The biggest change in this patch that intrigues a lot of players is the clan game option. A host can finally make it so that two clans can battle it out. One clan would be Chernovian while the other is Eucadian. This makes for a lot more use of the clan. Before this update clans can only be that, clans. There are no clan wars. The only use of the clan was to have your clans name in front of yours. A clan leader could not set up a clan server without others being able to join as well, even with a password. This new update allows for the computer to be told to let clan members in only.

Second Patch
Patch v1.2 includes:
* 5 New layouts.
* Clan game server option.
* Buddy slot reservations.
* Integrated Warhawk Store.
* Updated CTF capture/return behavior.
* Internal stat padder protection.
* Booster Pack status display at join game list.
* DualShock3 integration.
* Separate SIXAXIS motion control on/off per mode (ground, hover, flight).
* Detailed Player Score display at end of game fixed.
* Added new server type filters (player, ranked, dedicated, clan, Official Warhawk, etc).
* Added new server full/open filter.
* Fall damage exploit fixed.
* Dismount into walls exploit fixed.
* Invisible Tank, Turret & Warhawk exploit fixed.
* Auto-kick of idle players.
* Add to Favorites button added to end game screen.
* Increased VOIP volume when not using headset.

With the release of the second patch users will be able to download new “Booster Packs” through the new Store Front. As of last week there was no information on what type of packs would be released. A rumor was spreading across the web that it would have a new vehicle as well as a new map. The vehicle [pictured below] was to be a mobile base. Multiple team mates, vehicles, and more would be able to be carried in it. The vehicle itself would have a powerful weapon as well. Many speculated that it was too big for the included maps so Incognito would have to make a new map.
Well the rumor got parts of it right, there is a new vehicle and a new map. Not only are the latter things new but the older maps have also been modified to allow for the new vehicle. It is only playable on the largest of the layouts and the vehicle [KT-424 Combat DropShip] can only carry 7 team mates and a ground vehicle. The weapon is said to be powerful as well. The new map is the largest Warhawk map to date and is set in a factory setting, called Omega. According to ThreeSpeech this map is also set during a new time, night. The pack doesn’t include too much but hopefully it’s enough to make the gamer want more.warhawk_dropships.jpg
It seems that with the advent of all these patches Warhawk is finally becoming the game it should have been at launch. If all goes well with the release of these future patches and with the new pack, ” Operation: Omega Dawn” PLAYSTATION 3 owners should have another exclusive game to rejoice over.
