Just this past week the PS3 has received an update to it’s firmware AND PLAYSTATION Store. Well, these are not the only things SONY has been working on this year. To truly make this “the year of the PS3” the fine folks at SCEA have many features planned for their fans. To find out what Peter Dille, Vice President of SCEA posted on the Playstation.Blog keep on reading.

Peter Dille stated in the most recent Blog Entry on the Playstation site that the team at Playstation are working hard to bring the community up with various “score keepers” just like the XBL Achievements system. He also explained that he knows that the fans want in game XMB functionality and that it is coming this year. While all of this is great news, the biggest news is that, with the Store Update they have started to release the PLAYSTATION Network Cards across North America and that they should be available in all stores by the end of Spring.

And to wrap up with one of the many topics I know you ask about regularly, we are rolling out the PlayStation Cards to retailers nationwide as we speak. They will have the PlayStation Cards in denominations of $20 and $50 starting this spring. This will provide you with another option to get on board with the PLAYSTATION Store and enjoy the content that I’ve outlined above.

He also stated that this year we will see Home available for all to use in a non Beta form. Three really big announcements that everyone has been waiting for. Home, In Game XMB access, and of course those oh so needed PSN Cards. So, is this the year of the PLAYSTATION 3?
